As we watch events unfold all over the world, it appears that there is never going to be an end to the reign of evil. Atrocities unheard of before are being committed every day. Governments of the world seem to have run out of ideas as to how to contain and curtail this monster that is consuming the world. But will this continue forever?

The passage under consideration gives us the comforting answer. Daniel is given the vision of the final overthrow of the kingdoms of wickedness as the Ancient of days sits on His throne of holiness and great splendour. It is a vision of the events of the last days when the kingdoms of this world, under the rule of Satan, will be brought to an end and Satan himself with his agents will be brought to judgment. God will then set up His everlasting Kingdom that will be sovereign.

While this vision points to a future fulfilment, it has a present day application from which the believer can draw hope and comfort. Though evil may reign unchecked in the world; in the life of the believer and in all matters that concern him, the Ancient of days sits on the throne and He is in complete control.

Let this be your comfort and strength. But if you are still a sinner, you must give up sin and accept Christ’s reign over your life. Only then can you have peace in this troubled world.
